The Dicksons' Nursery business within Newton

Newton Villa c1930 ... the Time Office - Scarrat's house c1930

The main gates were on Brook Lane with the drive (now Dicksons Drive) - a cobbled road heading north towards Upton with ornate gardens and features such as pools and an alpine rockery. Newton Villa was built - an impressive building which was used as their main offices - seen above from Dicksons Drive - the current open space playing field is the former front garden of the Villa. After the demise of Dicksons business - Walkers Brewery considered purchasing it and another Walker (no connection) took on some of the deteriorating greenhouses until they collapsed.

the initial part of the entrance drive had (on westside) a wide show border of red/white/blue - alysum/dahlias/lobelia backed by laurel bushes and a holly hedge. When in 1927 the lower part of dickson rd houses were built they were behind the holly hedge.
