Welcome to The Upton-by-Chester Local History Group
homepage.
In former times a country village first recorded in the Domesday Book but with rapid expansion since
Victorian times is now part of the City Of Chester - suburbia with 8000 inhabitants but with its own
identity and community. The site covers a wider area than 'strictly Upton Parish boundary' taking in
parts of Newton and villages to the north.
The evolving site has 2 criteria -
educational definitive historical record & nostalgically entertaining.
Navigate via the side menu which generally leads to further sub-menus
or use this map (click the map to expand it) which like an advent calendar
allows you to open windows (by a mouse-click) into specific places of Upton's past.
this virtual tour of old Upton is based on a 1936 map
